Commonly known as MS-13 , Mara Salvatrucha is an international criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles, California, United States. It is one of the rivals of 18th Street , another gang that started in Los Angeles. Most MS-13 members are Salvadoran. After the end of the Salvadoran Civil War in 1992, many of them were deported to El Salvador. On February 22, 2023, three MS-13 leaders were located by Mexican authorities and expelled from Mexico via the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and Immigration and Customs Enforcement 's Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested them when they arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, USA.
