The Long Island Expressway is set to close in the towns of Smithtown and Islip overnight starting Wednesday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Monday. (Shutterstock) SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Overnight lane closures are coming to the Long Island Expressway in the towns of Smithtown and Islip, the New York State Department of Transportation announced Monday. A bridge cleaning project will be in the works at Exit 53 — Sagtikos State Parkway. The eastbound lanes will be closed on Wednesday and the westbound lanes will be closed on Thursday, according to the department.
